Up & Running

Just a short while ago we announced a new vision for Hemmels, one that would help us not only continue to create the world’s finest restorations, but also grow our global footprint and expand our portfolio to include resto-mod classics and re-engineered electric cars.

To achieve these aspirations, it was clear that major changes were required, as well as an unwavering commitment to succeed.  We didn’t have to look very far for inspiration.

When Mercedes-Benz introduced the new W113 SL series in 1963 the world had a mixed reaction.   Gone was the bare-bones styling of the 300SL and 190SL which was adored in both Europe and the USA.  Unlike its predecessors, the new 230SL model was much more elegant and refined, with only a hint of having any race-car genes.

The 230SL went on to win countless rally races, but more importantly the Pagoda has ultimately become one of the most desirable classic cars today.

Imagine the commitment and passion that Mercedes-Benz needed, to walk away from the huge success it was enjoying with those early SL cars, to re-tool and bet the future on a totally new chassis.  Yet the results were legendary.

Our first change has been to redefine our production and workflow, not to just to improve efficiency, but to increase communication.  This initiative required us to acquire a new premises and outfit that with all the facilities necessary - work bays, lifts, paint booth, specialist clean rooms, parts areas and management offices.

Production is now ‘up & running’ on projects at the new facility, and the hoped-for benefits are being realised.

And there has been excellent progress on sales as we welcome new clients from outside of the UK who have engaged with our local representatives in Australia and the USA.

This is just the beginning of the new journey for Hemmels and we’ll be making more announcements in the coming weeks. EVO – The Start of Evolution is the project banner for the Pagoda Sport II, which will soon be unveiled.  Moreover, our new electric power train is being designed with the assistance of EV experts from fellow companies within the sphere of our new owners.

The Hemmels work ethos remains an uncompromising pursuit of perfection. It is not easy, however with encouragement from our clients - kindred spirits – we know we are on the right road.
